Ipsos/Reuters Poll (October 22): Core Political Approval

Washington, D.C. - Barack Obama’s approval currently stands at 42% above his recent lows but below the average of around 45% earlier this year.

Republican Primary

Donald Trump continues to lead among Republicans, currently with 31% of Republican support.

  • Ben Carson remains in 2nd at 18% among Republicans.
  • Jeb Bush remains in 3rd with 9%.
  • Fiorina and Rubio are tied for fourth at 6% among Republicans.

Democratic Primary

Hillary Clinton continues to lead among Democrats nationwide, with 45% of Dems.

  • Sanders (29%) continues to run in second with Joe Biden in third (16%) among Democrats. (Fieldwork completed before Biden’s announcement of not running in 2016).

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters October 17-21, 2015. For the survey, a sample of 2,214 Americans, including 873 Democrats, 806 Republicans, and 301 Independents ages 18+ were interviewed online. The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points for all adults, 3.8 percentage points for Democrats, 3.9 percentage points for Republicans, and 6.4 percentage points for Independents. The data were weighted to the U.S. current population data by gender, age, education, and ethnicity. Statistical margins of error are not applicable to online polls. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. Figures marked by an asterisk (*) indicate a percentage value of greater than zero but less than one half of one per cent. Where figures do not sum to 100, this is due to the effects of rounding.
