Reuters/Ipsos Poll (October 13): Core Political Expansion

Washington, DC- The Ipsos Core Political Data (Expansion) was released today. This reports dives into the Core Political, examining gender, race and education.

General Election Trends

  • Hillary Clinton leads among all subgroups of registered voters with the exception of white registered voters, which is unchanged since last week.
    • Her lead is largest amongst minority registered voters and registered voters with a college degree.
    • Trump holds a 3-percentage point lead over Clinton amongst white registered voters.
  • In the 4-way ballot that includes Gary Johnson and Jill Stein, Clinton still holds the lead for all subgroup with the exception of white registered voters.
  • This week, Trump’s unfavorability ratings are higher than his favorability ratings across all registered voter subgroups.
    • While registered voters with some college prefer Clinton to Trump by 10- percentage points, this same group has her unfavorability rating higher than her favorability rating (53% unfavorable compared to 47% favorable)

Other Trends

  • All registered voter subgroups say that either the general economy or terrorism are the top two problems facing America.

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters October 6-10, 2016. For the survey, a sample of 3,567 Americans, including 1,222 men, 1,872 women, 2,319 whites, 775 minorities, 560 no college, 1,084 some college, and 1,450 college or more ages 18+ were interviewed online. The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 1.9 percentage points for all adults, 3.2 percentage points for men, 2.6 percentage points for women, 2.3 percentage points for whites, 4.0 percentage points for minorities, 4.7 for no college, 3.4 for some college and 2.9 for college or more. The data were weighted to the U.S. current population data by gender, age, education, and ethnicity. Statistical margins of error are not applicable to online polls. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. Figures marked by an asterisk (*) indicate a percentage value of greater than zero but less than one half of one per cent. Where figures do not sum to 100, this is due to the effects of rounding.
