Reuters/Ipsos Poll (October 27): Core Political Expansion

Washington, DC- The Ipsos Core Political Data (Expansion) was released today. This reports dives into the Core Political, examining gender, race and education.

General Election Trends

  • In the horserace matchup, Clinton leads among most demographic groups of registered voters, while Trump leads with white registered voters (Clinton 37% v. Trump 42%).
    • Registered voters without any college are the only demographic that is split on the candidates (Clinton 38% v. Trump 38%).
    • Clinton’s lead among minority registered voters remains steady, with her leading by 40 percentage points (Clinton 57% v. Trump 17%).
  • There are few changes in the four-way ballot question.
    • Registered voters with no college lean towards Trump more than in the two-way (Clinton 36% v. Trump 39% v. Johnson 10% v. Stein 3%).
    • Gary Johnson has the greatest amount of support with minority registered voters (Clinton 56% v. Trump 18% v. Johnson 11% v. Stein 3%).
  • Trump’s favorability numbers remain low among all registered voters, led by 45% favorability from white registered voters.
    • Trump’s unfavorable numbers continue to grow among female registered voters, now up to 64%.
    • Clinton favorability also remains low, with only a majority of minority registered voters (62%) and those voters with college or more (55%) rating her favorably.

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters October 20-24, 2016. For the survey, a sample of 1,777 Americans, including 567 men, 939 women, 1,188 whites, 318 minorities, 250 no college, 573 some college, and 683 college or more ages 18+ were interviewed online. The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points for all adults, 4.7 percentage points for men, 3.6 percentage points for women, 3.2 percentage points for whites, 6.3 percentage points for minorities, 7.1 for no college, 4.7 for some college and 4.3 for college or more. The data were weighted to the U.S. current population data by gender, age, education, and ethnicity. Statistical margins of error are not applicable to online polls. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. Figures marked by an asterisk (*) indicate a percentage value of greater than zero but less than one half of one per cent. Where figures do not sum to 100, this is due to the effects of rounding.
